As Mr Willy Mason would say: “Gotta keep moving, gotta keep moving, gotta keep moving with a troubled mind I’m following”.
Its been a while since the last blog post. The reason being that there have been big changes at The Rub HQ. Namely HQ have been moved. After sharing a house in the burbs of south Co. Dublin for the last 3 and a 1/2 years, I have made the big move to Town, with a capital T….Over 3 years ago I returned to Dublin after a long stint in Bilbao, and a short stint in a small German town called Frankenthal. I came back with no place to come home to, except my wonderful Uncle Martin’s spare room. So I set about finding myself a corner to pitch my tent. After a month of searching at a time when rent was sky high, and nice places were few and far between, I was welcomed into the warmth of Booterstown. I moved in with 3 lovely boys, and I never wanted to leave. As the years went on, I grew more and more attached to our cosy semi-d on a quiet cul-de-sac. I grew to love the tweeting of the birds in the morning, the screaming of the kids next door on the trampoline and the never ending growth of the hedges which required trimming more often than I was willing to offer it.
But in 2009 I met a man who tempted me away from my secure little world where everything knew its place, and so we decided to move in together. After another month of searching, at a time when rents are falling and nice places still seem to a little tough to come by, we found our spot on Capel Street.
The big move happened last weekend. After 7 car loads of stuff (more mine than his), the time came to hand back my keys. I pulled out the big green front door in the knowledge that I could never open it again without being invited in. The tears rolled down my face as I went out the gate and all the years of great memories overwhelmed me.
But now its time for something new. New memories to be made.
